Bites of My Life

Cue the tears...only two weeks left and only one weekend left in the district. That's all I'm going to say about that because I don't like to talk about it.
Besides getting depressed of my upcoming departure date, everything is still going swimingly in D.C. This past week we had a few visitors for the weekend and had some fun nights out with new summer friends.
-A peaceful and quiet morning at the Waterfront.
-Whole Foods Wine Wednesday is just about the greatest invention. 5 food samples paired with 5 different wines for 5 dollars every Wednesday.
-The cutest iced sugar cookies at Dean and Deluca. So close to buying the I heart DC one.
-Snapchat courtesy of my hilarious roommate. I might have forced them along, but Truckeroo was such a fun Friday night. Truckeroo happens once a month in the summer right outside the Nats stadium. There are multiple food trucks, live music and tons of people!
-Finally tried my first crepe. Out of about 20 different food trucks to choose from I knew I had to go with Crepe Love Truck.
-SCOUTerns after hours.
-Saturday morning (afternoon) coffee.
-Corn Beef Hash with poached eggs and hollandaise at Peacock Cafe. I personally think it resembles dog food but it was actually incredible.
-Addicted to Flash tattoos and getting everyone around me obsessed too.
-A little carousel horse insta photoshoot at my barre3 home away from home! #b3anywhere #b3dc
-Been waiting all summer to try these cinnamon rolls. Brunch at Matchbox didn't disappoint. It was especially great because roomie Syd and her mom were in town for about 24 hours on their way back from Europe to Oklahoma.
-Arugula and quinoa salad for Sunday night dinner at Circa. As promised, here is your shoutout Emily! I love have a quinoa eating roomie.

Bites of My Life

The 4th of July in the nation's capitol has a lot of build up that I was honestly afraid would let me down. Thank goodness I was wrong. Great company, great food and surprisingly perfect weather made for it to be one of my favorite weekends in DC.
Watching the fireworks from a rooftop where the top of the capitol and the Washington Monument were both in my view was pretty unforgettable. Here's to hoping that wasn't my last 4th of July in DC!
-My dinner from Tuesday night including fresh figs and avocado. Recipe here.
-I'm big into festive nails.
-Brain Freeze Wednesday with the SCOUT team.
-Coffee, an Argentina cookie and a notebook. The random goodies I leave at my intern friend's house with after having a mild peanut allergy attack scare.
 -#myscoutbag selfies
-Corn cake ranchero salad at Farmers Fishers Bakers. The picture isn't doing it justice, but another great FFB meal.
-Friends in town for the 4th leads to the perfect weekend!
-Doing some size comparison to give you an idea at how large Jumbo Slice really is.
-Smoked salmon scramble round 2 at Kramer's for a 4th of July brunch!
-Taking a bite out of the most American food we can think of.
-Good Stuff Eatery has turned me into a burger person. Love having visitors in town to use them as an excuse to go to all of my favorite places.
-Oreo and toasted marshmallow shakes. We asked for the kiddie size, they gave us regular, there was no complaining.
-Last meal of the weekend at Hank's Oyster Bar. Too much fun with these weirdos.
-Calm Sunday morning coffee and pistachio morning roll at La Colombe. Sister Claire told me about it and I had been waiting to try it!
-Walking over 16th street in Logan Circle and quite a faraway glimpse of the White House.

Fourth Fashion

Quicky fashion post for the fourth. Cut-out sleeveless top for the humid D.C. weather, white skort (because I'm skort obsessed right now), and red supergas. Supergas are the new converse in case you didn't know.
Red, white and blue on the nails, did you see my instagram yesterday? I've done this every year since I was about five.
Equipment star cutout shirt/Topshop wrap skort/Supergas/essie nail polish (redwhite, blue)
See last year's 4th fashion here.
Happy 4th from the nation's capitol!

Nutri Bowl

Tuesday night's dinner is the result of Wednesday morning's post. Quinoa, kale, avocado, red onion, grilled chicken and figs make up this little power bowl. It might look like hippie food, but it is mighty tasty.

Not to brag, but this was also whipped up in the dorm kitchen! *pat on the back*

Nutri Bowl
serves one

Ingredients:
1/4 cup cooked quinoa
2 cups of kale
1 small grilled chicken breast, sliced
1/4 small red onion, sliced
2 figs, quartered
dressing (any kind of balsamic or mustard vinaigrette)*
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Cook your quinoa according to your package's directions. While it's cooking slice your chicken, figs, onions and avocado. As the quinoa is finishing cooking, throw your kale and vinaigrette in at the last minute to warm it up and combine it with the quinoa. Decorate with the sliced chicken, veggies and figs. Sprinkle with salt and pepper if you choose!

*I stumbled into this little olive oil shop in Capitol Hill last Sunday. I'm a huge fan of free samples, so I walked around the whole store for about 10 minutes sampling all the different olive oils and balsamic vinegars with little cubes of bread and popcorn. I then sampled this amazing mustard sauce. It was a tarragon dijon mustard and actually one of the better things I've ever tasted. I made and impulse purchase and walked out happy.

I've been dipping all kinds of things in it and mixing it with a little oil to make a vinaigrette for my salads. I think this made my nutri bowl extra delish but I promise it will still be good with any kind of dressing you use.

Bites of My Life

I just love this place. The weeks are always good and I feel like I just repeat myself when I say "we ate good stuff, did fun things blah blah blah" but it's the truth! Take a bite out last week!
-Monday night ice cream! A scoop of green tea and a scoop of snicker doodle cookie dough!
-Toki Underground is rated the best ramen and one of the best restaurants in D.C. It was high on our list of places to eat at but the line is always at least an hour long. We found out you can get it to-go as long as you order it a day in advance. My kimchi ramen was definitely worth the day wait!
-I squealed a bit inside when I walked into the locker room at Barre 3 and saw someone with the same SCOUT bag as me! I quickly pushed them together and positioned them to get the perfect shot before anyone noticed!
-My job has tons of perks, but one of my favorite is Brain Food Friday! This week we got complimentary Sweet Green salads! I of course got the spicy thai tofu salad.
-Sangria and Jazz in the Garden on Friday night.
-My sweet roommate Sydney leaves today:( We had an action packed week and weekend to fit in some last minute things she wanted to do!
-Cheers to such a fun summer and dessert the size of our heads! The apple pie and chocolate mousse bowl from Founding Farmers sufficed our sweet tooth to say the least.
-Saturday brunch was equally our favorite brunch spot to date. The delightful Le Diplomate fulfilled all expectations. Bread basket, mac and cheese, cappuccinos, mushroom tart and smoked salmon were a few of our French dishes.
-#myscoutbag accompanied me to Alexandria for a day by the pool!
-On our way back into the city form Virginia we had our uber drop us off at the Jefferson Monument. It was very surreal and so cool seeing it at night.
-GBD was recommended to me for their donuts and fried chicken. The combo had me skeptical, but there is absolutely no reason to be a skeptic. My doughreo (oreo donut filled with oreo cream) was the perfect sweet finish to Saturday night. Also pictured are the glazed and nutella crunch.
-Ted's Bulletin was the brunch spot for Sunday. It might rival Farmers Fishers Bakers as being my new favorite D.C. restaurant. The old timey music and decor totally swung me. It was very all-american and felt very old school D.C. My blueberry cream cheese pop tart also helped.
So excited for the short week to be ended with the 4th of July in the most patriotic city!
